Remedial Media: This Week in the Ottawa Petfinder

Caitlin and Kyle White aren’t getting much sleep these days. With spring, the cycle of their new farm life has burst into life again – literally. The first of their adorable, wobble-legged lambs was born March 28. By the end of this week, they expect to have more than 100 newborn lambs, most arriving in twos or threes.

Living as I do now on PEI, with the weekly and interesting Graphics aside, there are only two dailies of 8 or 12 or so pages, the Guardian (or Grauniad) of Charlottetown and the Summerside Journal-Pioneer (or Urinal-Pee on here) With news so deftly truncated, they are at the basics of what counts in a daily newspaper–the Bridge column, group pictures of grinning local people involved in something or other locally (counting robins, cross-stitching competitions, sports, mass murders etc) comics, and obits. The Petfinder left me long before I left it. What a waste of whole forests. And braincells.
