The latest from former journalist Joe Wormington

Oh, sure, blame it on Trump!
The federal government has warned Canadian police services “violent” gangs known for cutting off the heads of victims are attempting to sneak across U.S.-Canada border points to avoid President Donald Trump’s changing immigration policy, The Toronto Sun has learned.

But, Joe, how will we ever spot these gangs before they start beating, slashing and dismembering us?
The classified “Alert” from Criminal Intelligence Service Canada (CISC) warns “violence linked to the MS-13 is often described as brutal, from senseless beatings to dismemberment….”

MS-13 stands for Mara Salvatrucha which CISC calls a “Latin American street gang known for its violent activities and that exploits migration patterns to set up new cells….”

And it’s not just men. The Washington Post did a story this week describing MS-13 female members luring victims to into being slashed to death.

OK, so you’re saying be on the lookout for refugees from El Salvador? But you still haven’t told us how to identify them
MS-13 members will likely exploit the migration of Salvadorians to Canada to set up new cells, most likely in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal and Vancouver….”

The RCMP says it will comment on the situation with MS-13 in the coming days. In meantime the lookout is on for MS-13.

The Bank! The Vault! How do you keep coming up with them?
It’s hard for many to fathom that the Raptor’s loss on Thursday night could have been our last ever visit to the Air Canada Centre as we’ve known it for almost 20 years. Unless there is a comeback miracle in Cleveland, it could be my final time calling the Air Canada Centre the Hangar—as I have down [sic] in hundreds of columns since being in the ACC on opening night way back in 1999. As of July 1 the home of the Toronto Raptors and Toronto Maple Leafs will be known as the Scotiabank Arena— thanks to a new $800-million naming rights agreement between Scotiabank and Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment…. The Leafs season is done and the Raptors have lost all eight playoff games they played in Cleveland so it may very well be goodbye Hangar and hello Bank, or should that be Vault!

On the other hand, after all the effort we put into making dunces literate it’s good they have something to read.
