Nobody begrudges Chris Scott a few personal days as he figures out how to serve both his constituents and his bail conditions.
The hon. member for Sault Ste. Marie, charged with domestic assault (with a high chair), is already up to his ass in alligators without mean-spirited gossips concocting preposterous rumours.
Scott was a hastily-appointed replacement for his old boss, Ross Romano, DoFo cabmin, who retired late last year in order to spend more time with The Wife (that’d be the estimable Justice Heather-Ann Mendes, plunked on the Ontario Court of Justice by Caroline Muldoon in 2019.)
DoFo wasted no time distancing himself from Scott. The day after his arrest, Ford announced: “Chris will be no longer sitting with our caucus…you can ask Chris Scott the reason why. I would go to the Sault Police.”
The under-busing undercut candidate Scott’s value proposition, as articulated to SooToday during the campaign:
“How are you going to advocate for your community and also be a member of Opposition? It’s a lot trickier of a spot to be in and you’re kind of trying to suck and blow at the same time. Whereas day one, there isn’t a door I can’t open.”
Speaking of, er, doors, Toronto flatfeet waiting for Scott outside his residence Sept. 21 began to wonder if the hon. member needed assistance getting out of his vehicle, since he pulled into a parking garage but didn’t exit his car.
For clarity, Frank asked police flacks what ensued?
- Did TPS officers observe Mr. Scott in his vehicle immediately before his arrest?
- Was he in the front or back seat?
- Was there a second person in the vehicle?
- Did Mr. Scott appear to be engaged in a sex act with this pers—(that’s enough questions!!—ed.)
Answer came there none: “The Toronto Police Service arrested Chris Van Scott, 35, on an out of town arrest warrant. As this is a Sault Ste. Marie investigation, we will not be commenting further.”
No comment, either, on whether the honourable member’s arrest, whatever its true circumstances, was immortalized on TPS body-cam video.
Scott’s next Sault Ste. Marie court appearance is Oct. 22. Good seats still available.
