  1. Margaret Wente is a text-book case of what the psych industry calls the Dunning–Kruger effect: a “cognitive bias in which relatively unskilled persons suffer illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability to be much higher than it really is. Dunning and Kruger attributed this bias to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their own ineptitude and evaluate their own ability accurately”

Matt Collins wrote quite eloquently in 2012 about the Dan Gardner “Wentegate” incident at the time at the Provocative Penguin:

“I’m far from perfect. I make mistakes. But I’m not a serial plagiarist. What I often am is a target for people who don’t like what I write.” – Wente

“Oh, I’m sorry, obviously the opinion pages of the Globe and Mail are a fucking creative writing workshop. And because Wente knew the Dan Gardner column, she went ahead and followed the maxim “write what you know”, which was Gardner’s column in its entirety?”

It’s delicious ginsu ballet of the entire matter; her truth vs. reality. Maybe there’s an app for that Dunning-Kruger shit? Poor thing. She’s to be pitied.

  2. If I were going to steal material, it would be from something less obvious than the Times or the Post.
