Mike Smith Charged With Sex Assault!

Another cloudy day in Sunnyvale…

Halifax police have charged Mike “Bubbles” Smith with sexual assault.

Smith, 53, was arrested last month and returned to his Applewood Lane lakefront abode in Dartmouth with an undertaking to stay away from the complainant and promise to appear in court at a later date.

The alleged victim, who cannot be named, was in her early twenties when the incident is said to have occurred just after Christmas 2017 in Dartmouth. (Allegations unproven in court-ed).

For the gang, that was a time of rapid change. Readers may recall how Robb Wells (Ricky), John Paul Tremblay (Julian) and Smith had wrested the rights for Trailer Park Boys from creator/producers Mike Clattenburg, Mike Volpe and Barrie Dunn.
A five year deal with Netflix ensued and the boys were rolling in dough.

While JP and his wife, Andrea, were busy erecting their dream pile on Lake Loon, Smith decamped for L.A. Readers may recall how that went: Roosevelt Hotel, Hollywood Blvd, April Fool’s Day 2016. Guests report a loud argument and a woman shouting, “you’re choking me,” as a man pins her against a bathroom wall.

L.A. police arrive, Smith is arrested for misdemeanour domestic battery and release him on $20,000 bail.

The TPB machine swings into damage control with statements from Smith and the alleged victim insisting it was all a misunderstanding, cast and crew are in full support, er, mostly.

The charge was dropped within a month, but not before co-stars Lucy DeCoutere and Jonathan Torrens exit the show.

Later, a Vice News story claims that Smith sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman at his home in 2005. She went to police at the time, but when a cop told her, “fingers could be pointed” at her because she had met Smith at a bar underage, she didn’t pursue the case.

Meanwhile, the next TPB season is scheduled to drop on Netflix in April 2026.
