The Week in the Petloser: Subscribe today or we’ll kill this dog (er, too late!!—ed.)

Sniffy the Rat, bon vivant, accused coprophage and intermittently good boy, died at home July 23, after years of hip trouble and several quarters of soft subscription growth.

Sniffy died doing what he loved: eating tenderly poisoned snacks on the couch and then falling asleep.

Sniffy the Rat was not perfect, but he did have standards. Did he, as long rumoured, eat shit? On countless documented occasions, in front of a who’s who of horrified witnesses/complainants? Undeniably. But it was typically his own, and therein, maybe, lies a lesson.

Was he innocent of ancient racial hatreds? Sadly, no. Sniffy, usually quiet and gregarious, reserved his enmity and startling bark for cats, squirrels, Tobi Lutke, and in his later years, dogs.

So, farewell, then, to a flawed, honest mongrel who never lived off the avails of advertising like the sleek, pedigreed pals of the boring mainstream media.

In his memory, why not take advantage of Frank’s sentimentality and grief with our Sniffy the Rat Memorial sub deal, just $129.95 for an entire year of gossip, news, satire, and much wheezy cryin’ on the inside?

Don’t make us kill again. Do it for Sniffy.

    • I’m thinking either Pet Valu just received a big shipment of canaries or local horndogs have discovered their “Girls of the Ottawa Valley” spreads.
